DSimmer.com: Rejecting the faith of Depeche Mode

An excellent post, Dean. Thank you. I've been thinking along these lines a lot recently, and I think that the individualism with which we struggle goes a lot deeper than the Enlightenment. I might even go so far as to say that the great struggle of human existence is that which we go through to preserve the illusion of our autonomy, from God and from neighbor. As I see it, that plays a lot into the relationship of the believer with the Church (and the world at large) as well (see Matt 25). It's one thing to pray that the sick be comforted, it's another entirely to visit them.

    Cous,

I think you are right regarding the true foundations of individualism and its relationship with the sinful desires of the flesh.

Thank you especially for the last two sentences. They made me smile in agreement. I spent a year beating Matthew 25 over the heads of my youth group last year and I hope it stuck in the hearts of at least a few of them.
